Pictures from the trip

A School which was in ruins after the Earthquake in Sichuan, China. 2,000 students were killed.

A painting on the wall in a Buddhist temple in GuiZhou.

A bridge at the same temple.

The lift that safely took us down Mount Emei after we hiked up.

Candle Jars which lined the temple atop Mount Emei.

Mount Emei temple as seen from below.

Top of Mount Emei.

Looking out across the Cloud Ocean from Mount Emei.

Chinese New Year lunch with Teddy's family. Tons of food and a shark fin dish = /

A friendly dog from the Stone Village in GuiZhou.

An alley in GuiYang

A dinner with Austin's family and their friend - Chou.

Carl and I toasting to the start of our trip.

Famous water curtain waterfall in GuiZhou.

The monkey needed help drinking.

Nice kid feeding the monkey. A nearby zoo had a bunch of caged monkeys and animals. A handful of years ago some of the monkey escaped and 'set up camp' near this road where they were able to beg from tourists for food. Now there is a big population of begging monkeys that plague tourists coming and going from the nearby zoo. Interesting...

Class

We just started classes 3 weeks ago. The first week we didn't have any responsibilities, the second we got our feet wet, and now we're full blown teaching. I lead two photography classes, and ask students to bring in photos to each class so we can talk about them. I am VERY excited to see what they do. You can follow our pictures on flickr:

The school next to UIC has military training for it's freshman. For the past week and a half the roads and paths are jam packed with Chinese students in uniforms chanting and marching. It's both impressive and startling. Without a camera I haven't been able to document it (Yes, I am teaching a photography class... I have to fix this problem soon).

Home again, sorta

Here are some movies from my travels now that I am back in Zhuhai. I need to dump the contents of my computer as my camera is dead and my computer is dying. I apologize for the terrible audio and suggest you turni it off. I will update the blog soon, I promise.

This is a 360 movie ina temple in the GuiZhou Province.

This is a view of the cloud sea on Mount Emei.

Here is another view of the cloud sea.

Dragon Gate which is a waterfall/cave thing.

Little kid feeding a monkey.

New Year's lunch with Teddy's family.

This is a movie from our hotel as we woke up next to an amazing waterfall in GuiZhou.

Another short of the waterfall. I am sorry these are low quality.

The Snow Tree in a GuiZhou cave.

The Monk Stone in a GuiZhou cave.

Kids playing in the park with whips and tops. The annoying noise is made by an older guy's metal top, it has slits in it that make a horn sound when it spins fast.

I was exploring by myself in a stone village and some dogs attacked me. I ran away and a Chinese person defended me, calling the dogs off.

2,000 students were attending classes in the school when the earthquake struck. All of them died except for the kids who were out at recess.
